Welcome to the Craig Y PerchyCH (CYP) solar Farm website

CYP Solar Limited is seeking to develop a new solar farm, near Glais, Swansea, South Wales

CYP Solar Farm could have a capacity to generate 20MW of renewable electricity and contribute to tackling the climate emergency, helping to move Wales closer to achieving the targets for renewable energy generation set by Welsh Government.

The CYP Solar Farm project could provide a significant contribution to Wales’ aspirations to cut carbon emissions and help reduce global warming.

As this project will deliver in excess of 10MW of energy it will constitute a Development of National Significance (DNS) under the Planning (Wales) Act 2015 and we must apply to  Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW), which will make a recommendation to Welsh Ministers on whether or not to grant planning permission.

The project could produce enough renewable electricity for up to 5,300 homes each year, and offset over 6,000 tonnes of Co2 per year, the equivalent of taking approximately 2,300 cars off the road.*

Pre-application consultation

Pre-application consultation has now closed. We are now analysing the feedback received and are preparing the pre-application consultation report which will accompany the planning application due to be submitted to PEDW in early 2023. The pre-application consultation report will detail the consultation undertaken and how feedback has been taken into account for the project.

About us

CYP Solar Farm is being developed by Windel Energy and Canadian Solar in partnership.

Founded in 2018, Windel Energy is a privately held company that specialises in the development and asset management of renewable energy projects and low carbon technologies.

With more than 3 gigawatts (GW) of clean, renewable power and battery energy storage in various stages of development, Windel is at the forefront of low carbon technologies including solar, energy storage, and onshore wind, and are helping to pave the way to achieve the UK’s net zero target by 2050.

Windel Energy is committed to responsible land use and believe that the development and delivery of a large-scale solar farm can be achieved in harmony with its surroundings.

Canadian Solar was founded in 2001 in Canada and is one of the world’s largest solar technology and renewable energy companies, having delivered around 71 GW of premium-quality solar photovoltaic modules around the world. Likewise, Canadian Solar has developed, built and connected over 6.6 GWp in over 20 countries, with 800 MWp of projects in operation, 5.3 GWp of projects under construction or in backlog (late-stage), and an additional 18.5 GWp of projects in the pipeline. Canadian Solar is one of the most bankable companies in the solar and renewable energy industry, having been publicly listed on the NASDAQ since 2006, with a mission to foster sustainable development and create a better, cleaner earth for future generations by generating electricity from the sun.

Canadian Solar has a strong track record having developed and built dozens of projects in the United Kingdom including Christchurch Solar Farm (Dorset), Bobbing Solar Farm (Kent) and Ballygarvey Solar Farm (Co. Antrim).
